About that other bird...

owl

Owly was last seen the morning of April 3, taking shelter on an unseasonably cold, windy, wet morning. Owly hung out most of the day, then left. I knew it was the same owl because of the missing tufts above the right ear. I've read owls use these houses for nesting only - no love connection, no need to hang around! I'm thrilled Owly paid us several visits, and maybe next year there will be owlets. I'll be sure to make sure the house is clean and ready for Owly's return next spring.

  1. Oh I hope something didn't get your owl. A friend told me yesterday that a hawk killed his momma owl one day and killed the father 2 days later. He had to take the owlets to an animal rehabilitator.

    1. Oh, the cruelty of nature. I've always wondered what happened to Owly's ear tufts. I did peek inside our owl house (I just couldn't help it!) and it was empty - no owlets.

  2. Did you have any eggs?

Oh by the way, that is a stunning photo of the owl.

    1. No eggs, just an empty box. And thanks!

  3. Great picture! You were brave to peek in the box. The owls are little but fierce looking! Hope you get chicks next year. I just posted a picture of ours.
